CorkYogis was developed from the idea that great technical performance can be combined with sustainability. Cork is one of the few materials in the world that grips better when wet, ideal for strong dynamic yoga. And cork is highly sustainable (having a negative carbon footprint) and naturally anti-microbial. It dries quickly and only needs occasional cleaning.
CorkYogis are already the favourite of many top yoga teachers. Our own much loved Caroline Tautz says: “I have been teaching in the hot studio and Yotopia for 7 years, and so far the Corkyogis mat has been my favourite. I feel secure in the knowledge that even when I’m demonstrating a tricky transition or balance that I won’t slip. The soft texture of the mat means that I can move smoothly without effort, and the absorbent quality is excellent so the mat stays dry. Even though I’ve used the mat for a few months the hygienic surface of the cork seems to stay clean.I use the mat in both hot and non hot studios and it works equally well in both. Well done corkyogis for creating a lovely looking mat that is as ecological as it is practical, I love it! It gets lots of admiring comments too!”
Each mat is made from 1mm of Portuguese cork backed by 2mm (Classic) or 4mm (Premium) recycled rubber.
CorkYogis also has a strong social purpose, supporting the Destiny Reflection Foundation in India, giving work and 10% of profits to survivors of human trafficking. This includes making beautiful yoga mat bags from recycled saris.
